Delgado after Katrina
Hurricane Katrina caused a lot of changes at our school, Delgado Community College. When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans on August 29, 2005, it damaged our school. It was unbelievable! Delgado is less crowded now because many students didn't come back after the hurricane. There were over 17,000 students enrolled before the hurricane, and now there are only about 10,000 students enrolled. Several buildings at Delgado were damaged by the hurricane, including the library which is still closed. In the past it was very difficult to find a parking spot, but now there are many parking spaces available. The hallways used to be crowded and noisy but now they are not. There used to be many people exercising early in the morning at the fitness center, but now it is dark and empty when I arrive in the morning. It is much easier to buy food at the cafeteria now, unlike before when there were often long lines. It will be a long time before Delgado recovers from Hurricane Katrina.
