Gutted

When my family and I came back to the city after evacuating in advance of Hurricane Katrina, we had a home that looked okay on the outside. However, when you opened the door you were hit with the awful odor that will lead to nothingness.

We had a home, but there was nothing left to save. Everything was gone, we had nothing to salvage, there was mold everywhere. Ceilings had collapsed in three of the four rooms we have. But, this was the house my parents raised us it; we couldn't just leave it. This was home. We got to work. We all helped as much as we could with everything, it took us almost two years to finish with everything but we eventually got back into the familiarity of a home; our home.
