Hellicane: Poets Respond to Hurricane Katrina

Water rising everywhere\r\nMaking islands of despair\r\n\r\nRooftops turning into piers\r\nAfloat now in a sea of tears...\r\n\r\nDaybreak bringing no relief\r\nOnly growing pain and grief...\r\n\r\nHelplessly, I watch from afar\r\nAs distant as a falling star\r\n\r\nUnable to extend a rope\r\nTo those now drowning without hope\r\n\r\nOf course I pray on bended knee\r\nTo ease the rampant misery\r\n\r\nThat threatens to encompass all\r\nAnd causes even strong to fall\r\n\r\nI pray that God will give us eyes\r\nTo see the Devil\'s sharp disguise\r\n\r\nFor evil comes not from above\r\nOur God is good, our God is love...\r\n\r\nTonight, before we rest our heads\r\nLet\'s pray for those without their beds\r\n\r\nOr clothes or toys or food to eat\r\nOr even shoes upon their feet...\r\n\r\nA prayer said with careful word\r\nI promise you, I know is heard...\r\n\r\nThere\'s power we can all impart\r\nWith simple prayers from the heart...\r\n
